Freedom of choice has seen choice win out. Whether in Va where Youngkin made it a cornerstone because he thought he’d cracked the code (but where I agree there were other issues at play in this blue-tinged state), or in the case of direct referendums.

See, the problem is, emergencies can crop up any time during a pregnancy. Lawyers will always tell docs to proceed with legal caution, which is too often the opposite of proceeding with medical caution vis a vis the mom. Legal matters do not move at the same pace as medical emergencies.

So we frequently see polling running one way, and election results running the opposite way. In Kansas, pre election polling saw abortion rights losing by almost as much as they won in the actual election.

Which is Trump’s dilemma. At first, imo, he listened to those who said “polls say 15 weeks enjoy consensus support!” Part of the problem is, folks like Graham proposed a federal 15 week limit, but states could restrict further if they wanted under his plan. But bluer states would be limited at 15 weeks. So, for one thing, a federal rule would have to be a floor as well to gain national traction imo.

But, I also think other Trump advisors warned him about putting too much stock in any 15 week limitation. I don’t think he wants that attached to his candidacy, and I think that’s prudent from his standpoint.
